We respond to a 2018 article by Feng Xiang, in which he argues that AI will lead to centrally planned economies. We argue that intelligence does not obviate the need for exploration (referring the exploration / exploitation tradeoff in reinforcement learning), and so distributed control (liberalism and capitalism) remains the better model for society.
